How we estimate: your mower uses a typical price for its type plus fuel and yearly upkeep (gas costs include a 30% allowance for 2026 fuel prices); your time is square footage divided by a typical mowing speed. Hiring a pro starts from a $50 trip fee plus $150 per acre, more for hilly lawns. Sunseeker includes today's price, a yearly blade kit, a $150 battery allowance in years 4 and 8, and electricity. Questions people ask before switching

How much does lawn mowing cost per visit in 2026?

Most US services charge $40 to $80 per visit for a standard lot up to a quarter acre, and $150 or more for an acre, depending on terrain. Over a seven-month season that is typically $1,200 to $4,000 a year.

Is a robot mower cheaper than hiring a service?

Usually within one to two seasons. A Sunseeker costs $600 to $3,300 up front and a few dollars a month to run. Once it has paid back the purchase price, every visit you are not paying for is money kept.

What does mowing it myself actually cost?

The mower, fuel, oil, blade sharpening and tune-ups add up to roughly $50 to $250 a year depending on the machine. The bigger cost is time: a half-acre lawn with a gas push mower is about 60 hours a season.

My yard is hilly. Will a robot handle it?

The X5, X7 Gen 2 and X7 Plus Gen 2 use all-wheel drive and are rated for slopes up to 60% (30°). For gentler lawns up to about 20%, the V3, S4 and X3 Plus are plenty.

My lawn is under big trees. Does that matter?

It matters for satellite-only mowers, which lose their position under dense canopy. The S4 maps with 3D LiDAR, and the X5 and X7 Gen 2 series add vision navigation, so they keep mowing straight under tree cover.

How much maintenance does a robot mower need?

No oil, spark plugs or filters. Swap the small blades every one to two months, rinse the deck occasionally, and keep the charging station clear. That is the whole routine.
